Adding Games to ScummVM

ScummVM, from ScummVM.org, is an amazing application whose sole purpose is to allow you to play the old LucasArts point-and-click adventure games, as well as point-and-click adventure games from other companies, such as Humongous Entertainment, Adventuresoft, Revolution Studios, and more.

In this tutorial, I will show you how easy it is to get up and running with ScummVM! Adding games couldn’t be simpler.

h2. Before you get started, create a “ScummVM User Data” folder.

ScummVM User Data Folder

This is just a beautiful idea because then you can have all your ScummVM game files in one place. Makes it pretty simple if you ask me.

h2. Get ScummVM from http:://www.scummvm.org/

This is the program that you will need, just click “Downloads” on the right hand side, choose your system, and go!

h2. After installing ScummVM (using whatever method you use for your particular OS), open up ScummVM.

open ScummVM

Your window will look something like this, although if you are just starting out, you won’t see any games.

h2. Click “Add Game…”

add game

Now we get to adding a game! First, click “Add Game…”

h2. Now navigate to the directory where you have your game files and click “Choose”

Adding Game

This is as easy as going to your ScummVM User Data folder I had you create earlier (see why I made you do that?), clicking on the folder that contains your game files, and clicking the button to add your game!

h2. Configuration

Configuration

Now ScummVM wants you to configure the game itself. The platform does not matter, because whatever works with said game is fine. Just make sure you reflect that in the file (i.e. no additional nomenclature in parentheses).

h2. After you are done configuring, click OK.

Finish Configuration

h2. Finishing Up

Wrap Up

Just highlight your newly-added game, click “Start”, and you are off to the races!

h2. Enjoy your game!

Didn’t think you could play that game again, did you? Well, now you can!
